Following on from his NY Times work, I have also taken notice of two more photo stories that Todd Heisler has produced about sports from the New York area where he focuses on the action away from the courts.

These two projects are presented differently,the colourful Serena shows a top class professional athlete at the top of her game, from all of the preparation that is required to compete for a grand slam title and the attention that comes with that success. Then the B&W high school basketball images are a throwback to where some superstars like Serena originated from, photographing these aspiring athletes in the local park where they discovered their talents & love for the game, overcoming setbacks such as injuries & slacking grade,even how their coach prepares for matches in the kitchen & laundrette.
